BuddhaName organizes two branch groups that perform specific roles: the Awakened Heart Community (service to community); and the Buddhaheart Fellowship of Tasmania (dharma training and study). Our aim is not to retreat from this world, but to be spiritual practitioners in it. Our way is that of loving-kindness and compassion for all beings. The Buddhaheart Fellowship of Tasmania provides training opportunities to anyone interested in meditation and other aspects of Buddhism, and encourage our supporters to put spiritual teachings into practice by serving the community where and when they can.
“Generosity, loving-kindness, and compassion are an essential part of the path to Buddhahood. To selflessly help the sick, the old, the dying, the lonely, frightened, homeless, and hungry, is to walk the path of a Buddha-to-be.” ~Ven. Shih Jingang
There are many different ways we can serve the community in which we live. No matter where we are, or what our abilities might be, there is always a need for volunteers:
- Hospice Care
- Meals-on-Wheels
- Soup Kitchens
- Charity Shops
- Lifeline Counseling
- Firefighter
- State Emergency Services
- Ambulance
- Surf Lifesaving
- Chaplaincy
- Nursing Home Auxiliary
- Hospital Volunteers & Auxiliary
- Prison Visitor
- Animal Shelters
- Environmental Protection
- Parents & Teachers Associations
- Etc…
The Buddha says in the Dhammapada:
“What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow. Our life is the creation of our mind.”
What sort of community do you want? What sort of life do you want to live?
“Heart of compassion like rolling thunder, heart of love like gentle clouds, water of Dharma nectar raining on us, extinguishing the fire of afflictions.”
